Open Ride to Dartmoor

Bank Holiday Monday 4th May 26

Well, what can we say about today’s open ride up to Dartmoor?...

So, I looked out the window and the clouds were looking a little bit menacing and the weather reports were saying 50/50 as to whether we were going to get wet, so on goes the waterproof leggings (obviously it stayed dry and I felt like a boil in the bag fish) and off I go down the club house to meet up with the rest of the crows. Usual hellos and a bit of banter, made sure all the bikes were fit and off to Dameralls we trundled where on arrival there was quite a gathering waiting for us.

Well we did our meet and greet and discussed the route and the stopping places for fuel for us and the bikes, when my eyes suddenly spotted a seriously dodgy haircut in the crowd (photographic evidence has been obtained)

and on that note we set off up the A30 to the Tavistock turning where on the slip road at the junction someone decided to play who can lay there bike down the tidiest by not putting their leg down in time. POW, I smashed that one then, fortunately handle bars and saddle bags saves the day and broad shoulders can take the embarrassment.

On arrival in Tavistock, we went to the garage for our first pit stop and realizing that my tobacco pouch had taken flying lessons on the way up so was forced to buy a packet of fags, F*****g hell £16:50! Last time I brought a packet of B&H they were a pound and that was when I started smoking roll ups.

After topping up our fluids and lungs after getting over the price and shock we headed off up to Princetown to the old police station café. Unfortunately it had at least a 40-minute wait before they could even take our order so off we went to the Plume of Feathers which had a good outside seating area.

So soon the food and drinks started to flow and there were a lot of happy chaps and one chapette.

Once we had had our fill, a couple of our companions had set off back down west as they unfortunately they had work in the evening. We were going to head towards Jollies (bike shop) but that was closed so we thought we would go home via Plymouth and through the tunnel where little boys had to play with their throttles to make some glorious sounds.

We made our last pit stop at the garage by the old route 38 café for those that needed a top up and to say our goodbyes as we were all going our separate ways after this.

We all set off on the A38 toward Dobwalls roundabout where we waved goodbye to some and the rest and pootled down the Glynn Valley to Bodmin where the pace picked up and we all dispersed.

And that was about that. All I can say is a VERY BIG thankyou to all who turned up because you guys made the ride. Keep an eye out for the next one and we look forward to seeing you all again. And you know we made some Bleddy Noise…….
